We have a birdhouse on our front porch, and there has been a family of house sparrows living in it. Today, I was sitting on the front porch and the adult birds were particularly agitated. I didn’t know why until I saw this little guy hopping around under the bushes near my feet. He must have fledged this morning. He doesn’t seem to know enough about life to be afraid of me. I had the phone about 8 inches away when I took the picture. Cute little bugger. I hope the neighborhood cats don’t get him.

Sounds like you could do a poor man’s version of Francois Mitterand’s last meal.

Well, that’s fucked up. Or French, one or the other.

Nothing worse than a particularly agitated Sparrow

It’s all a part of nature’s plan.

The cats? Yes and no. The sparrows were here before the house cats. And the house cats don’t exactly eat birds to survive. On the other hand, there is no shortage of house sparrows in the world.

An agitated Sparrow has been known to take down a Turkey. Unfortunately my Google-fu is weak and I can’t find an image of the incident that isn’t in the pdf. Since the photos in the article are credited as official U.S. Navy photos, and I was able to improve my Google-fu, here is a picture.
